Fearless Critic announces release of The Wine Trials
The Wine Trials NEW YORK, NY (May 14, 2008)
The wine world is buzzing with controversy over food and wine critic Robin Goldstein’s evidence that everyday wine drinkers actually prefer cheaper wines to more expensive wines in blind tastings.

Today, Fearless Critic Media is proud to announce the release of The Wine Trials, the book that reveals his surprising results, distributed by Workman Publishing. In recent weeks, debate over The Wine Trials—and over its accompanying academic paper, “Do More Expensive Wines Taste Better?”—has exploded, reaching the front page of the New York Times dining section and the editorial page of the Boston Globe, and spawning articles in publications from Newsweek to USA Today to BusinessWeek, from the International Herald Tribune to the UK’s Guardian.

The Wine Trials tells the remarkable story of Goldstein’s brown-bag blind tastings: when more than 500 blind tasters around the country sampled 6,000 glasses of wine ranging in price from $1.50 to $150, their preferences were inversely correlated with price. For example, Domaine Ste. Michelle, a $12 sparkling wine from Washington State, outscored Dom Pérignon, a $150 Champagne, while a six-dollar Vinho Verde from Portugal beat out a $40 California Chardonnay and a $50 1er Cru white Burgundy.
